What kind of therapy does Capel Cornerstone provide....?

Psychodynamic counselling is based around the idea that human behaviour is influenced by internal responses to experiences and relationships (past and present) that can then affect personality, attitudes, feelings and thoughts.  In counselling, the therapist therefore listens carefully to all levels of communication, to what is being said and presented within the session, as well as what might be going on internally and is being conveyed behind the words, and these can then be explored and challenged.

In order to meet the unique needs of each individual, we tailor the therapy by using an 'integrative' approach.  This means that, alongside the psychodynamic focus, we incorporate other disciplines such as mentoring and mindfulness to enable progression.

Exploring through verbal communication works well for some young people, whilst others engage more effectively through metaphor, ie in play or artistic creativity.  We would explore a diversity of mediums to suit the needs of each individual and work at a pace that is appropriate for them.
